Booking days available: Monday to Thursday (excluding holidays)
Tour time: 9:30-11:30 A.M.
Size of group: Maximum 40 people (or 2 buses) per booking
Cost: $5.75 + HST = $6.50 per person. Payment is due upon arrival by cash or
cheque in one envelope.
Please make cheque payable to Smiths’ Apples and Farm Market. *Please
note there is a $100 minimum for tours.
Length of tour: You can expect to be at the farm for 1.5-2 hours total (this includes 45 minutes of instruction).
For cancellations due to inclement weather, please phone Smiths’ at (519) 832-2971 the morning of the tour (at the latest).
Structure of our tours:
- Welcome/Introduction
- “What we do” at Smiths’
- Educational walk/pick an apple!
- Make an Apple Slinky (snack)
- Respectful use of grounds (please, no apple picking unless invited!)
*Reminder for Teachers: Please note that no lunch facilities exist at Smiths’, therefore please do not bring packed lunches to the farm.
Topics covered during educational walk:
- The structure/parts of plants
- What green plants need to grow
- Varieties of apples
- Pollination/Fertilization/Plant reproduction
- Pests in the orchard
- Comparing apples to other crops (ex. sunflowers, corn, pumpkins)
- The uses of plants (by people)
Tours follow the Grade 3 curriculum but are modified to suit the age of the students attending. Our instructors are well-trained and knowledgeable.
