Applesauce Pie
1 baked pie shell or crumb crust
For the applesauce:
6 to 8 medium apples
1 cup sugar
up to ½ cup water or apple juice
2 tbsp butter
1 tsp almond extract
For the topping:
1 cup flour
½ cup brown sugar
½ cup shortening (or butter)
Core and slice the apples; add the sugar, water or juice and butter. Cook until
tender, cool and add the almond flavouring.
Mix into crumbles the ingredients for the topping.
Spoon the applesauce into the baked pie shell, cover with topping and bake in
400°F oven for about 15 minutes, until top is golden.
Serve hot or cool with whipped cream, ice cream or slices of cheese.
