Mulled Apple Cider
1 large navel orange
1 lemon
three cinnamon sticks
1 tbsp allspice berries
1 tsp whole cloves
2 tbsp crystallized ginger, chopped
4 C pure apple cider
1/4 C brown sugar, packed
orange slices, for garnish
Remove zest from orange and lemon using a vegetable peeler, then squeeze juice and reserve. Wrap orange and lemon zest, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and ginger in a piece of cheesecloth and tie closed.
Combine apple cider, reserved orange and lemon juice, brown sugar, and spice packet in a medium saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove spice packet.
Garnish with orange slices and serve hot.
